Itanagar, Nov 6: Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, released a Rs 50 Commemorative Coin to mark 50 years of NHPC Limited at a ceremony held in New Delhi. The event was graced by Secretary (Power), Ministry of Power, Pankaj Agarwal, NHPC Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Bhupender Gupta, and Director (Personnel) Uttam Lal.
NHPC Limited, India’s premier hydropower Navratna company under the Ministry of Power, celebrates a landmark milestone — completing 50 years of its establishment on November 7, 2025.
Congratulating NHPC on the occasion, the Union Minister said that the release of the commemorative coin by the Government of India symbolizes recognition of NHPC’s enduring legacy and its strategic contribution to India’s energy self-reliance. He added that the coin celebrates NHPC’s remarkable journey of resilience, innovation, and dedicated service to the nation.
During the event, the Union Minister also launched a special publication — a comic book titled “Chhota Bheem aur Bada Bandh”, based on the popular character Chhota Bheem and his friends. The book aims to spread awareness about the importance and benefits of hydropower among children and the general public through engaging storytelling and vibrant illustrations.
NHPC CMD Bhupender Gupta said, “The Government of India’s release of a Rs 50 commemorative coin on NHPC’s Golden Jubilee is a tribute to our organization’s illustrious journey and its pivotal contribution toward achieving the nation’s energy self-reliance. This landmark initiative not only recognizes NHPC’s exceptional accomplishments but also serves as a lasting source of inspiration for continued excellence in the years to come.”
Over the past five decades, NHPC has executed landmark hydropower projects in some of India’s most challenging terrains, while also diversifying into solar, wind, and green hydrogen — reinforcing its position as a 100% Green Energy Company.
With an installed capacity of over 8,333 MW across 30 power stations and 14 projects under construction totaling 9,704 MW, NHPC continues to play a vital role in strengthening India’s energy security and advancing the nation’s transition towards clean and green power.
