Itanagar, Nov 6: A peaceful rally was organized today by the Jan Andolan Anti-Corruption Movement (JAACM) of Arunachal Pradesh, from Akashdeep to IG Park Tennis Court here, demanding Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s resignation over alleged corruption issues.
Holding placards, banners, and posters, hundreds of people participated in the rally, highlighting their anti-corruption demands.
Addressing reporters during the rally, the organization’s chairman Nabam Tagam alleged that the Chief Minister had engaged in contract works under the names of his family members.
“Chief Minister Pema Khandu is doing contract works in the name of his kith and kin, and in this regard, a case has been pending before the Supreme Court for the past several years,” Tagam claimed.
He further informed that on 18th March 2025, the Supreme Court had directed the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to clarify whether family members of a sitting Chief Minister can legally participate in and benefit from state contracts, and to examine the financial and legal implications.
Tagam said the organization is demanding a CBI inquiry into various corruption allegations in the state “so that the citizens of Arunachal Pradesh can get justice.” He also mentioned that the Jan Andolan Anti-Corruption Movement had earlier submitted a 26-point demands related to corruption practices to the government, but has not yet received any response.
