Mechukha to host India & Asia’s only ARWS Qualifier in 2026

Itanagar, Dec 2: Arunachal Pradesh is set to achieve a major milestone in adventure tourism as Mechukha has been selected to host India and Asia’s only Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS) Qualifier – Adventure@Mechukha – in November 2026, which will serve as the gateway to the Adventure Racing World Championship 2027.

The announcement was made by Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona during a presser here on Tuesday. The event was also attended by Tourism Secretary Ranphoa Ngowa, ARWS CEO Heidi Muller, and representatives from NthAdventure – Ajita Madan, Sayeesha Kirani, and Stephan Muller, who were in the state on a reconnaissance visit ahead of the international racing event.

Calling it a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh, Sona said that the event will bring elite international adventure racing teams to the state and showcase Mechukha’s stunning landscapes, indigenous culture and unique high-altitude terrain to the world. He said it builds on the success of last year’s National Adventure Racing Championship, which firmly positioned Mechukha as an emerging adventure hub in India.

“The ARWS Qualifier will significantly boost global visibility, promote eco-tourism and border tourism, and attract adventure travellers, filmmakers and influencers from across the globe,” the Minister said, adding that Mechukha’s frontier beauty and warm hospitality make it India’s new adventure frontier.

Adventure@Mechukha 2026 will feature extreme multi-discipline racing, testing the endurance, teamwork and resilience of participating teams through rugged trails, icy rivers and high-altitude wilderness, making it one of the most challenging and scenic adventure races in the world.

The event will be hosted by Arunachal Tourism and organised by NthAdventure under the umbrella of the Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS), with Mechukha serving as the race base.

With preparations already underway, Arunachal Pradesh is gearing up to welcome the world to one of its most remote and breathtaking landscapes for a race that promises to redefine adventure tourism in the country, organizers said.
