YINGKIONG, Dec 7: Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang on Sunday inspected the 30-km Panggo–Ningging stretch of the strategically important Migging–Tuting Defence Road, which is currently under construction in the district.
The work is being executed by 1448 Border Roads Construction Company (BCC) of 761 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) through an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor. The project is aimed at strengthening all-weather connectivity to key border and interior locations.
This particular stretch largely passes through sinking and vulnerable zones, requiring permanent and technically robust treatment to ensure reliable, all-weather connectivity throughout the year. The construction involves advanced road treatment techniques, including Cement Treated Sub-Base (CTSB), Cement Treated Base (CTB) and Bituminous Concrete (BC) works. These processes are being undertaken after the completion of formation cutting, construction of culverts and proper drainage systems.
Notably, this is the first Cement Treated Road project being implemented in Upper Siang district, marking a major technological and infrastructural milestone for the region.
During the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the BRO engineers, contractor’s site engineers and, in particular, the MTH machine operator for their sincerity and dedication in enhancing road infrastructure in the border areas.
The DC further directed BRO officials and the executing agency to maintain the highest quality standards at every stage of construction to ensure durable and reliable road infrastructure.
The improved road connectivity, once completed, is expected to significantly boost defence logistics, disaster response capabilities, administrative outreach and socio-economic development in the remote border regions of Upper Siang, officials said.
