IYFA, APIYO for stricter verification to check illegal immigrants in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Dec 11: The Indigenous Youth Force of Arunachal (IYFA) and the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO) have called for stricter verification measures to curb the presence of illegal immigrants in the state. They also appealed to the public to remain vigilant.

Addressing reporters at the Arunachal Press Club (APC) today, IYFA chairman Kamta Phassang expressed concern over the recent arrest of two individuals by the Itanagar Police on charges of espionage.

“The situation calls for heightened alertness. For the past few months, several organisations have been raising issues related to suspected illegal immigrants and alleged unauthorised constructions of masjid/madrasas within the Capital Region,” Phassang said.

He informed that the youth organisations have identified 12 structures in the Capital Region which they believe to be unauthorised. “Some of these have been removed, but several remain. We have requested the state government and district administration to take immediate action regarding the alleged illegal construction of a religious structure within the Capital Region. We have also urged authorities to verify the status of individuals reportedly residing in different parts of Itanagar and Naharlagun,” he added.

APIYO, along with the All Naharlagun Youth Organisation (ANYO) and IYFA, has submitted a joint memorandum to the Chief Secretary seeking action against unauthorised constructions, unregulated markets and what they termed a rising influx of migrants within the twin capital cities.

Authorities have not yet issued an official response on the organisations’ demands.
