ITANAGAR, Dec 20: A two-day workshop on GIS and Remote Sensing titled ‘Foundational Course on GIS and Remote Sensing’, organized by the Department of Geography, Dera Natung Govt College (DNGC), Itanagar, under the theme ‘Harnessing GIS and Remote Sensing for Sustainable Development: A Practical Application in Geographical Research.”
Organized under the aegis of the Department of Higher and Technical Education (GoAP), the workshop aimed at strengthening both conceptual understanding and practical skills in GIS and Remote Sensing, with special emphasis on their applications in geographical and environmental research.
The first day focused on foundational concepts such as GIS fundamentals, digitisation, georeferencing, and spatial data handling. The second day emphasized advanced applications, hands-on problem-solving sessions, and an introduction to emerging trends, including the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in spatial analysis.
The technical sessions were conducted by resource person, Shiv Mihu, Field Investigator, ICSSR Project, Rajiv Gandhi University. His expert lectures and practical demonstrations provided valuable insights into both theoretical and applied aspects of GIS and Remote Sensing, greatly enriching the learning experience of the participants.
The two-day workshop witnessed the participation of 50 participants, including students, research scholars, and teaching faculty, attending in both offline and online modes. Participants represented various higher educational institutions across Arunachal Pradesh, including DNGC, Itanagar; Government College, Bomdila; Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat; Neelam Taram Govt College, Yachuli; Indira Gandhi Govt College, Tezu; Binni Yanga Govt Women’s College, Lekhi; Government College, Doimukh (Midpu); Dorjee Khandu Govt College, Tawang; and Wangcha Rajkumar Govt College, Deomali.
