Itanagar, Jan 29: An active cadre of the NSCN(R), identified as Self-Styled (SS) Sgt Khunpong Wangsa (30), has surrendered before 36 Battalion CRPF, 44 Assam Rifles and Civil Police on Wednesday at Khonsa, Tirap district.
Police said the surrendered cadre, a resident of Lower Kolam village under Lazu Police Station in Tirap district, had joined the insurgent outfit on November 25, 2022. The surrender took place in the presence of CRPF DIG (Ops), Dibrugarh, Prabhakar Tripathy.
The surrender was facilitated as part of sustained efforts by 36 Battalion CRPF under the supervision of Commandant Lamkhokam Lhoujem to promote peace and stability in the region. The individual has expressed his willingness to shun violence and rejoin the mainstream of society. Necessary legal formalities are being completed as per laid-down procedures at the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Tirap.
Reiterating its commitment to peace, security and development, 36 Battalion CRPF appealed to misguided youths to abandon the path of violence and return to the mainstream.
