Itanagar, Jan 29: The Banderdewa Police on Tuesday seized 24.6 grams of suspected heroin and arrested a 22-year-old drug peddler during a naka checking operation at the Banderdewa Check Gate.
According to police, on January 27 at around 2:20 pm, Banderdewa Police received reliable information regarding the transportation of narcotic contraband from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh on a TVS Ntorq scooter. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team led by Inspector Kipa Hamak, along with SI KB Singh, SI Nani Bagang, head constables T Bomdom and C Acha, conducted a naka checking operation under the supervision of Naharlagun SP Dr Nyelam Nega.
During the operation, the suspect, identified as Ajay Chetry (22), was intercepted while riding a TVS Ntorq scooter bearing registration number AR-01-U-3745. Upon thorough search, police recovered 19 vials containing suspected heroin concealed inside the accused’s lower undergarment. The total weight of the seized contraband was 24.6 grams.
Following the seizure, Banderdewa Police registered a case vide Banderdewa PS Case No. 05/2026 under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act. The accused, a resident of Dhanabhari under Dhekiajuli Police Station in Sonitpur district of Assam, has been arrested, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
