ITANAGAR, Jan 29: The Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organization (APIYO) has decided to defer its proposed agitational programme, "Delhi Chalo Abhiyan", following a written assurance from Chief Minister Pema Khandu to address its demands.
Addressing a press conference here today, APIYO general secretary Tapor Maying said the decision was taken after the Chief Minister assured action on the organisation’s three-point charter of demands. He said the ‘Delhi Chalo Abhiyan’ was announced on January 26.
The APIYO’s demands include the demolition of an illegal Jama Masjid structure, removal of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, and a ban on weekly markets in the Itanagar Capital Region.
Maying informed that a meeting was held on January 27 with Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Home Minister Mama Natung in Itanagar, during which the state government assured necessary action on all three demands.
Expressing optimism, the APIYO general secretary said the organisation hopes the state government will honour its commitment.
