Itanagar, Feb 2: The Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO) on Monday warned the state government that it would resume its agitation if a formal government order is not issued against alleged illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and the purported illegal construction of Jama Masjid in the state.
Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club, APIYO president Taro Sonam Liyak said the organisation’s movement on the issue remains unresolved despite receiving a written assurance from the state government on its three-point charter of demands. He stated that although the government has conveyed its commitment, no concrete government order has been issued so far regarding the removal or dismantling of the alleged illegal structure and related demands.
Liyak informed that APIYO leaders had met Chief Minister Pema Khandu on January 27 in the presence of Home Minister Mama Natung, during which the government provided a written assurance to find a logical solution to their demands. These include demolition of alleged illegal Jama Masjid structures, removal of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, and a ban on weekly markets.
He warned that if the government fails to issue an official order by February 27, the organisation would be compelled to resume its movement against the state government.
The organisation also extended its support to the Arunachal Frontier Tribal Front (AFTF), led by chairman Tadak Nalo, for scrapping the existing 80:20 recruitment ratio and implementing 100 per cent ST reservation in the state. APIYO further demanded that ST and PRC certificates be made mandatory for all recruitments conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB).
Meanwhile, APIYO appealed to all communities to refrain from gambling during local and indigenous festival celebrations.
