World Wetlands Day 2026 observed with awareness programs in Itanagar

Itanagar, Feb 2: The World Wetlands Day 2026 was observed on Monday with a series of awareness activities in line with this year’s theme, “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage.”

The programmes were organised by the State Wetland Authority (SWA) in collaboration with the Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) PC-Hub and the State Climate Change Cell, Arunachal Pradesh, following directions of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Plantation drives, drawing competitions and interaction programmes were held for students of Nichipu Children Foundation School, Doordarshan Colony; Gellam Memorial High School, Chandranagar; and Little Flower School, Chimpu. About 750 students participated and were given World Wetlands Day T-shirts.

Director (Environment) and Member Secretary, APSPCB, D Dohu Robin inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling. Officials from EIACP PC-Hub, SWA, SCCC, and APSPCB interacted with students on wetlands conservation, environmental pollution, and carbon sequestration.
