Itanagar, Feb 4: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Wednesday expressed deep anguish over the tragic demise of Chow Chikseng Manpang of Manfaiseng village in Namsai district, who was serving as Head Constable (WT) at Roing Police Station.
According to reports, the head constable lost his life after being attacked by a tiger in the Mayudia area of Lower Dibang Valley district on Monday while returning to Roing by a motorcycle after performing official duty at Anini. The mutilated body of the police personnel was recovered from the Mayudia area on Tuesday.
Terming the incident a profound loss, Mein said the untimely death of the police personnel has deeply saddened not only the bereaved family but also the entire police fraternity. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the family and prayed for strength and courage to help them endure the irreparable loss.
While emphasizing that wildlife conservation remains a collective responsibility, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the protection of human lives must be accorded equal priority. He urged the concerned wildlife authorities to take immediate and appropriate steps to safely relocate the tiger to secure habitats away from human settlements.
Mein further stressed the need for proactive and preventive measures to prevent recurrence of such tragic incidents and called for effective strategies to ensure harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife without endangering lives.
Meanwhile, the Lower Dibang Valley district administration has issued a public advisory urging people to avoid travelling on the Mayudia stretch of the Roing-Anini road on foot or by two-wheelers following reports of a tiger roaming in the area.
According to the advisory issued by the Deputy Commissioner, sightings of a tiger have been reported in the Mayudia region, particularly along the 40–65 km stretch of the Roing-Anini road. Officials said the big cat has been sighted moving freely in and around the area on multiple occasions, raising serious concerns for public safety.
In the interest of safety, residents, commuters and visitors have been advised to remain extremely cautious and refrain from walking or using two-wheelers along the affected stretch until the animal is safely restrained or relocated.

Meanwhile, the last rites of late Chow Chikseng Manpang were performed on Wednesday at Namsai with full honours. The solemn ceremony included traditional death rites and ceremonial gunshots as a mark of respect for the departed soul.
Namsai DC C R Khampa, SP Sange Thinley, and Roing DySP Pujom Buchi paid their last respects and expressed their condolences to the bereaved family. Relatives, locals, police and IRBn officials were also present and paid their tributes to the departed policeman.
