Demand for Bharat Ratna to the 14th Dalai Lama surfaces as Orgs trio celebrates his Grammy Award conferment

ITANAGAR, Feb 5: The Itanagar Buddhist Cultural Society (IBCS), Thupten Gatseling Monastery, and Himalaya Suraksha Manch, Arunachal Pradesh (HSMAP) came together to celebrate the prestigious Grammy Award conferred upon His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, in an event held at the monastery premises here today.

The event was marked by prayers, reflections, and heartfelt tributes celebrating the global recognition of His Holiness’s timeless message of compassion, peace, and universal harmony.

Speaking on the occasion, HSMAP president Tarh Tarak said this honour is far more than a personal achievement; it is a global recognition of a voice that has, for decades, spoken not for one nation or one religion, but for humanity itself. His Holiness has continuously reminded the world that peace begins within the human heart.

He further noted that while the Grammy Award is traditionally associated with music and entertainment, it has now embraced something far deeper — spiritual wisdom as a universal art form. This recognition affirms that even in the modern age of technology and materialism, the world still listens to the language of conscience, kindness, and inner awakening. The Grammy Award symbolizes that the world is not merely celebrating a narrator, but a teacher of humanity, a moral compass of our times, and a messenger of hope.

Former MP and national convener, Core Group for Tibetan Cause–India, R K Khrimey stated that the 14th Dalai Lama has received 151 international awards, including the Grammy Award, bestowed by various countries and global organizations, reflecting the universal respect and admiration for his life and teachings.

Highlighting the deep cultural exchange between India and Tibet, he said that historically both civilizations share an inseparable bond and have long acted as bridges of spiritual and cultural harmony in Asia. He emphasized that Tibetan refugees are honoured guests of the Govt of India and should not be compared with any other displaced communities, as they enjoy a unique status and deep respect.

Khrimey also strongly demanded that Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of India, be conferred upon the 14th Dalai Lama in recognition of his unparalleled global contribution to peace and humanity.

Among others, the event was also attended by Dr Leiky Wangchuk, president IBCS; Nima Sangey, secretary general HSMAP; Anok Wangsa & Tanyong Tatak (former ministers); and Lama Rinchen Norbu, In-charge, Buddhist Gonpa, Itanagar.

The programme concluded with prayers for long life of His Holiness, and a collective wish that he may continue to guide the world with his message of peace, compassion, Nalanda wisdom, universal love, and harmony for all humanity.
