Likabali, Feb 6: Lower Siang Deputy Commissioner Rujjum Rakshap on Friday inaugurated the district’s first pink toilet project at Likabali, marking a significant step towards promoting gender-inclusive public infrastructure in the district.
Expressing satisfaction over the creation of the facility, the DC said that such amenities are basic necessities at public places and sites of tourism importance. He emphasised that the facility must be used responsibly and maintained as per prescribed norms so that it does not become dilapidated or abandoned over time.
Commending the executing department for completing the project on time without compromising on quality, Rakshap said that additional facilities such as a dormitory, marriage hall and other amenities should also be developed within the Malinithan Temple complex to ensure greater convenience for devotees and visitors.
The Pink Toilet project is a pilot initiative of the State Govt, implemented through the Urban Affairs, Urban Development and Housing Department. The project aims to promote gender inclusivity and improve hygienic facilities for women.
The pay-and-use toilet, exclusively for women, has been constructed within the Malinithan temple complex at a cost of Rs 31.25 lakh and was executed by the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA), Lower Siang. (DIPRO)
