Itanagar, Feb 7: The Banderdewa Police has seized narcotic substances during a routine check at the Banderdewa check gate on Friday and arrested one person in connection with the case, a senior officer said on Saturday.
The accused has been identified as Rupam Kakoti (30), a resident of Chessa under Bihpuria Police Station in Assam.
Naharlagun SP Dr Nyelam Nega said that acting on specific intelligence, a police team intercepted a white Mahindra Bolero (AR-01-U-1969) travelling from Assam towards Arunachal Pradesh. During a lawful search conducted in accordance with the NDPS Act, the police recovered 51 vials of suspected heroin weighing 66.57 grams (including vials) and suspected cannabis weighing 19.74 grams, which were concealed under the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
A case has been registered at Banderdewa Police Station under Sections 20(b)(ii)(A) and 21(b) of the NDPS Act, the SP said, adding that further investigation is underway.
