KHONSA, Feb 7: Noted public leader of the Nocte community, Jangkha Lowang passed away following a prolonged liver ailment.
Late Jangkha Lowang, the elder brother of Somcha Lowang, retired Deputy Commissioner, and Dr Neeba Lowang, District Medical Officer, is survived by his wife, three sons, two daughters-in-law, one daughter, and five grandchildren.
A DIPRO report stated: “It is hard to believe—and even harder to accept—that Jangkha Lowang, popularly known as JK, is no more. He had been battling liver disease for some time. With his sad demise, the Nocte community, particularly the Deomali area, has lost a vibrant and lively personality. His passing truly marks the end of an era for the Noctes.”
He was full of life and humour and possessed deep knowledge of traditional systems and customs, which earned him immense respect across the region.
As per information received from his relatives, the last rites will be performed the day after tomorrow at his native village, Sipini. His mortal remains have already been taken there.
“Feeling devastated and inconsolable,” they stated.
