ITANAGAR, Feb 9: The Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has demanded Chief Minister Pema Khandu step down from his post on moral ground for ‘free and fair investigation into the allegation of providing huge government contracts to his relatives’.

Addressing reporters here today, IPR secretary of ACS, Giah Tanam informed that a writ petition was filed by Voluntary Arunachal Sena (VAS) and Save Mon Region Federation (SMRF) in the Supreme Court against CM Pema Khandu alleging misuse of his position and awarding large scale public works contract to firms owned or controlled by his close relatives.

“The four firms linked to the CM are M/s Brand Eagles, M/s Frontier Associate, M/s RD Construction and M/s Alliance Trading Co. They were awarded crores of public contract works and owners of all these firms are close relatives of Khandu,” Giah alleged. He said that the next hearing for the case is scheduled for 17th of this month.

Giah claimed that the investigation agency is not able to do free and fair investigation into the case and that it can only be possible if he steps down from his post.

“We all know that the Supreme Court has directed the state to provide data in this regard,” he added.

The ACS has threatened to stir up a democratic movement if the CM fails to step down from his post.
