Itanagar, Feb 10: Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Itanagar organized the inaugural event for Financial Literacy Week (FLW) 2026 on the theme ‘KYC – Your First Step to Safe Banking’, at DK Convention Centre here on Monday in presence of Commissioner Finance, GoAP; and senior officials of various banking institutions.
FLW has been a flagship initiative of the RBI since 2016, with each year focusing on a specific theme targeted at a particular segment of the population to promote financial literacy. The 2026 theme of FLW on KYC aligns with the broader goal of financial inclusion by emphasizing "KYC – Your First Step to Safe Banking", which promotes secure and inclusive access to formal financial services.
The event started with the inaugural address by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra which was webcast live from RBI’s head office at Mumbai. The event was attended by State’s Finance Commissioner YW Ringu, RBI General Manager Abhijit Majumdar, Deputy General Manager of NABARD Vivek Anand and other bankers.
The banking fraternity discussed collaborative efforts to step up financial literacy and banking services to underserved communities in the state. Officials of RBI Itanagar gave a presentation outlining the Reserve Bank of India’s Master Direction on Know Your Customer (KYC), emphasizing its key regulatory provisions and practical implications for financial institutions.
To mark the commencement of the week, dignitaries unveiled dedicated Financial Literacy Posters, witnessed by regional heads of major banks, the SLBC Convener bank, NABARD officials, and other banking representatives from the state. During the programme, the RBI GM handed over sanction letters to banks as reimbursement under Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF) for conducting Financial Literacy camps to SBI, Slice SFB (NE SFB), Fino Payments Bank, Apex State Cooperative Bank amounting to Rs 1.97 crore.
General Manager RBI, along with other dignitaries then flagged-off a van carrying various financial literacy messages to the districts of Arunachal Pradesh over the Week.
