CIH-backed horti based capacity building programs wrapped up successfully

PASIGHAT, Feb 11: CAU–KVK, East Siang district, successfully organized 10 one-day Capacity Building Training Programmes on the theme “Different Scientific Approaches for Strengthening Horticultural Crop Cultivation in the district that ended today.

Sponsored by the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema (Nagaland), the training series aimed to enhance farmers' knowledge and skills through scientific, innovative horticultural practices suited to the agro-climatic conditions of East Siang district.

The programme was inaugurated by Prof L Wangchu, Dean College of Horticulture and Forestry (CHF), CAU (Imphal), Pasighat, and concluded in presence of Dr A K Tripathi, former Dean, College of Agriculture (CoA), Pasighat; Dr Rajumoni Bordoloi, Director, Extension Education Institute (EEI), North Eastern Region, Guwahati; and Dr Chittaranjan Deka, Senior Scientist, EEI.

During the ten-day schedule, lectures were delivered by faculty members and scientists from KVK East Siang, the CHF, and the CoA, Pasighat.

The entire programme was overseen by Dr Brijendra Singh Rajawat, Principal Scientist & Head, KVK East Siang.

The sessions covered various important topics, including potential exotic crops for East Siang, production and propagation technologies of horticultural crops, post-harvest management and value addition, advances in mushroom cultivation, crop protection strategies, nutrient management and natural farming, protected cultivation and nursery management, floriculture and medicinal plant cultivation, and horti-based integrated farming systems.

The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 500 farmers, including farmwomen and rural youth, representing villages such as Kiyit, Oyan-Sille, Rani, Mangnang, Miglung, Pekung, Rengging, Mirbuk, Yagrung, Mebo, Boring, 12th Mile, Ngopok, Mirem, Sika Bamin, Sika Tode, Ayeng, Berung, Mirsam, Mirku, New Deka, Tekang, Ledum, Yapgo, New Telam, Telam, Seren, Bilat, Depi, Depi Moli, Takilalung, Silluk, and adjoining areas of the district.
