PFR survey for SUMP gets a ‘boost’

YINGKIONG, Feb 14: Further extending community support for the preparation of the pre-feasibility report (PFR) for the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), a proposed 11,000 MW project in the State, 17 additional pro-PFR residents of Karko village submitted their consent to the Deputy Commissioner, Upper Siang district, Talo Jerang on Saturday at the office chamber of DC Bungalow, Yingkiong.

With this development, the number of households supporting the PFR activities has increased to 93 out of the total 120 households.

Earlier, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and the pro-residents of Karko village was signed on February 1 this year, at the premises of the DC Bungalow, Yingkiong, in presence of Ninnong Ering, Advisor to the Minister (Hydro Power)-cum- MLA Pasighat West, and Alo Libang, Advisor to the Chief Minister-cum-MLA Tuting–Yingkiong.

Out of the total 120 households of Karko village, 76 families had initially signed their consent authorizing the conduct of the PFR activities.

In this connection, the DC appreciated the ‘voluntary’ participation and ‘positive’ initiative demonstrated by the villagers, stating that such cooperation reflects a progressive and development-oriented mindset among the local community. (DIPRO)
