ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Don Bosco College (dbc), Itanagar celebrated Pre-Nyokum 2026 themed ‘Passing traditions to the next Generation’ at its premises here today.
A slew of cultural items, including Buya dance, and mega dance among others, presented by the students, marked the occasion.
Attending the event as chief guest, IMC Deputy Mayor Tok Tabin Camdir highlighted the importance of celebrating and preserving culture of different communities through their festivals. He also stressed the significance of Nyokum as a cultural marker for the Nyishi community.
Moreover, the Dy Mayor called upon the students to maintain and propagate cleanliness.
Dr Khoda Anju, Assistant Professor, Political Science, in her address, spoke on Nyishi heritage and mythology of Nyokum.
DBC Principal Fr Jose George, in his speech, apprised the guests that Pre-Nyokum was first celebrated in 2016 and has since become a part of the college’s calendar. He expressed gratitude to Taba Niglo and his family for their “role” towards making the celebration a successful one.
He added that 1400 plus students, teachers and staff, coming from different backgrounds, celebrate Nyokum as a colourful celebration of life.
Among others, the event was also attended by Doni Hari Neri, president Arunachal Athletes Association.
