Itanagar, Feb 15: Emphasising the need to link cultural preservation with modern development, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein stated that the State is endowed with immense historical and spiritual wealth that must be protected and promoted for future generations.
He informed that the State Government is undertaking initiatives to preserve heritage sites through the development of heritage circuits and historical landmarks, including plans for a proposed Second World War Museum and related routes.
These efforts, he said, would not only safeguard history but also boost tourism and create livelihood opportunities for local youth.
The Deputy Chief Minister made these remarks while joining the Mishmi community in celebrating the 56th Tamla Du Festival at Medo, on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, he said Tamla Du reflects the community’s deep reverence for nature, faith and age-old traditions that have been preserved through generations. He lauded the priests for conducting the sacred rituals and appreciated the youth for their vibrant cultural performances.
Despite rapid modernisation, he noted, the indigenous traditions of Arunachal Pradesh continue to remain strong and guide society.
Recalling the vision of community elders who institutionalised such festivals decades ago, Mein said platforms like Tamla Du foster unity, promote peace and prosperity, and inspire younger generations to carry forward their rich cultural legacy.
On developmental front, the Deputy Chief Minister underscored the importance of preparing comprehensive and professional Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to effectively tap central funding support, assuring that the state government is ready to contribute its share to fast-track infrastructure projects. Improved road connectivity, tourism promotion and transparent governance mechanisms, he added, remain key priorities to ensure balanced regional growth.
The festival was also attended by Namsai MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom, IT and e-Governance Chairman Nyamar Karbak, Namsai ZPC Sujana Namchoom, among others.
