Backed by NALSA, APSLSA holds ‘Mega legal awareness program’ at Dapo

ITANAGAR, Feb 19: With a view to sensitize the people of Upper Subansiri district on various mandated schemes, programmes of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and other Govt welfare schemes that are entitled to the marginalized people, a Mega Legal awareness programme-cum-Anti drugs awareness campaign, organized by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Upper Subansiri and Upper Subansiri District Law Students’ Union (USDLSU) under the aegis of NALSA, was successfully held at the Tagin cultural heritage building, Daporijo on Tuesday last.

Over five hundred enthusiastic participants, including Gaon Burah/Burihs, Self Help Groups, vendors, public, teaching staff, and students from various schools took part in the programme.

In the inaugural session, Narang Laji, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Civil Judge (Sr Div) & Secretary DLSA Upper Subansiri, spoke about the constitutional rights, free legal services to citizens especially marginalized people, guaranteed under constitution and Legal Service Authorities Act, 1987.

Yomgo Ado, Member Secretary APSLSA, highlighted the role and function of SLSA & DLSA, rights and entitlements of free legal services to the weaker sections of society, and the Para Legal Volunteer (PLV) scheme.

ADC B Sorum expressed his gratitude for conducting the first ever MLAP in a remote district and urged the people especially Gaon Burah/Burihs to take advantage of such enlightening awareness programs to know their constitutional rights.

On the occasion DySP K Ronya appealed to the gathering to be a law abiding citizen who should cooperate in curbing crimes. He further appealed to the participants, especially GBs of each village to spread legal awareness in every village.

NALSA theme song ‘Ek Mutthi Aasman’, ‘Sankalp Geet’, APSLSA theme song ‘Arunachal Tum Bharat ko Har Subha Jagate Ho’ and awareness video on ‘Lokpal of India’ were screened on the occasion.

A host of resource persons, including Mian Bui (Asstt Legal Aid Defence Counsel), and Kani Nada Maling (panel lawyer of GHC), spoke on women protection laws, juvenile justice, consumer protection, tribal rights, drug abuse eradication, FIR and bail procedures, POCSO Act, Lok Adalat, senior citizens' rights, fundamental rights and duties, MACT claims, marriage registration, NALSA (Legal Services to Victim of Acid Attack) Scheme, 2016, rights of persons with mental illness and disabilities.

They also briefed the participants on newly launched schemes of NALSA like JAGRITI, ASHA, DAWN, SAMWAD, SATHI, LSUM, LSUC, NALSA helpline 15100, mobile legal aid App, and the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme 2024.
