Stress for regular screening of cervical cancer & vaccination at grassroots level: Dr Bengia Chirchi at CBC-hosted SOP on ‘Nari Shakti & Viksit Bharat’

ITANAGAR, Feb 24: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Regional Office (Itanagar), conducted a Special Outreach Programme (SOP) on ‘Nari Shakti & Viksit Bharat @ 2047’ at the premises of Himalayan University (HU) here today.

Attending the event as resource person, Dr Bengia Chirchi, Gynecologist at Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, spoke on the critical importance of women’s health in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047. She stated that a strong economy, skilled youth, gender equality, low maternal mortality, and high life expectancy can be realized only through sustained focus on women’s health and empowerment.

Drawing from her professional experience, Dr Chirchi highlighted concerns regarding cervical cancer in Papum Pare district and emphasized the need for regular screening and vaccination at the grassroots level. She also informed that India has made significant progress in reducing the maternal mortality rate and responded to queries from participants during the interactive session.

Another resource person, Dr Md Ibraheem Khan, HoD Special Education (HU), stressed the importance of gender equality in society. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he stated that “there is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved.” He called for overcoming social stigma, stereotypes, and mental barriers to ensure inclusive development. He also noted that India granted equal rights, including the right to vote, to women from the inception of its democracy, whereas women in several developed nations had to struggle for suffrage.

Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, HU Vice Chancellor Dr Prakash Divakaran encouraged participants to believe in and support the aspirations of young girls. He cited the achievements of eminent personalities such as Kalpana Chawla and Mary Kom, who have brought pride to the nation.

Earlier, in his inaugural address, Utsav Parmar, Jt Director CBC, highlighted the importance of women’s mental health in nation building. He emphasized that a healthy society can be built only when mothers are empowered to give birth to healthy children, underscoring the crucial role of women in shaping a developed India by 2047.

Cultural presentations by troupes from Nyem Acham and Donyi Sanggo Raseng added on to the event, which witnessed enthusiastic participation and concluded with a renewed commitment towards women empowerment and the vision of Viksit Bharat.
