Master Trainers undergo 4-day training for Census 2027 in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Feb 26: A four-day training programme for Master Trainers (MTs) for the first phase of the Census 2027 — House Listing and Housing Census — is underway at the Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Naharlagun, from February 24. The programme marks the beginning of the Census of India 2027 in Arunachal Pradesh.

Inaugurating the training session, Director of Census Operations, Arunachal Pradesh, Biswajit Pegu, highlighted the significance of the Census and the crucial role of training in ensuring quality data collection. He emphasized that Master Trainers will subsequently train Field Trainers, who will then train Enumerators and Supervisors. The Enumerators will ultimately collect data from the field.

Stressing the importance of accuracy and completeness, Pegu noted that the quality of Census data directly impacts planning and development in the state. “Training plays a pivotal role in maintaining the quality and reliability of Census data,” he said.

Director of Economics and Statistics (State Nodal Office for Census), Bebing Megu, elaborated on the modalities and operational framework for carrying out the extensive exercise across the state. Welcoming the participants, ATI Director Pate Marik assured full support and cooperation in conducting the training programme for what he described as a significant national task.

The Census of India 2027 will be conducted in two phases: Phase I — House Listing and Housing Census, and Phase II — Population Enumeration. The second phase, which is the main phase of the Census, will be conducted in February 2027.

The Govt of Arunachal Pradesh has notified that Phase I will be carried out in the state from April 16 to May 30, 2026. For the first time in Census history, data will be collected in digital mode.
