Siram attends Golden Jubilee Nyokum celebration at Bameng

BAMENG, Feb 26: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bosiram Siram attended the Golden Jubilee Nyokum celebration at Bameng in East Kameng district, marking a historic milestone in the cultural journey of the Nyishi community.

Extending his heartfelt greetings, Siram wished the people of Bameng, the entire district, and the Nyishi community a Happy Nyokum. He praised the scenic beauty of the area, describing its blue mountains and vibrant Nyishi inhabitants known for their simplicity and cheerful spirit.

Addressing the gathering, Siram lauded the elders, organizers, youth, and cultural leaders for preserving and promoting the rich heritage, customs, and spiritual values of the Nyishi tribe. He stated that Nyokum is a sacred festival symbolizing harmony between humanity and nature and is dedicated to invoking the blessings of Nyokum Ane, the divine mother, for peace, prosperity, protection from natural and man-made calamities, and a bountiful harvest.

He noted that the Golden Jubilee celebration reflects fifty years of collective cultural preservation, unity, and continuity of tradition. Festivals like Nyokum, he said, are not merely cultural events but powerful symbols of identity, unity, and indigenous pride. He emphasized that Arunachal Pradesh’s strength lies in its diverse tribal traditions and that safeguarding these traditions is a shared responsibility.

Calling upon the younger generation to remain rooted in cultural values while embracing education and development, Siram also urged youth to shun drugs and join the fight against drug addiction and alcoholism.

The Golden Jubilee celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from community leaders, cultural troupes, youth groups, and dignitaries, making it a grand and memorable occasion.
