ROING, Feb 26: The Research Institute of World’s Ancient Traditions, Cultures and Heritage (RIWATCH) successfully organized the International Mother Language Day celebration 2026 at Central Reh-Ko here today, under the theme ‘Youth Voices on Multilingual Education’.
As part of the celebration, a vibrant rally was conducted, with more than 200 students marching from general ground, Roing to Reh-Ko. The rally resonated with slogans promoting awareness about the importance of mother languages and the preservation of linguistic diversity.
The programme was graced by Manish Shaurya, Superintendent of Police Roing, as chief guest, and Amih Lego, DDSE Roing, as guest of honour. Dr Ista Pulu, president Idu Mishmi Cultural and Literary Society (IMCLS), and Dr Rasto Mena, Chairman Pendrive Academy, Roing, also attended.
In his address, the SP stressed the importance of preserving linguistic diversity and urged the younger generation to take pride in their mother tongues. He remarked that safeguarding native languages is essential to preserving the unique and vibrant cultural heritage of the state for future generations.
The DDSE highlighted the crucial role of multilingual education in strengthening cultural identity and promoting inclusive learning environments.
This was followed by an insightful talk by Dr Rotnojoy Reang, research officer RCML, who elaborated on the historical and contemporary significance of International Mother Language Day.
A documentary film highlighting the richness of indigenous traditions and languages was also presented at the event.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr Mechek Sampar Awan, Centre Head RCML, emphasized the collective responsibility to safeguard the rich linguistic diversity of Arunachal Pradesh.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation of over 200 students representing various educational institutions from Roing.
