Woman killed, 2 minors injured in late night fire in Itanagar

Itanagar, Feb 27: A tragic fire accident claimed the life of a woman and left two minor girls injured at Itanagar’s Lower E-Sector, opposite the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Secretariat, on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Tarh Yayum, wife of Tarh Tame. The two injured children, identified as Tarh Yalke and Tarh Roshni, sustained burn injuries in the incident.

According to Itanagar Fire Station Officer-in-Charge Koj T Gambo, the fire station received a call through the ERSS control room at around 12:33 am. Firefighting personnel from the Itanagar Fire Station immediately rushed to the spot with five fire tenders and launched an operation to control the blaze.

As per preliminary reports, the fire originated from an OBT house belonging to Dare Yangum. The structure reportedly had a concrete half-wall construction. The suspected cause of the fire was a candle flame, which led to a rapid spread of the blaze. During the incident, three LPG cylinders reportedly burst, intensifying the fire.

“Tarh Yayum was burnt to death in the incident. Her body has been sent to the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Naharlagun for postmortem examination,” he said.

The total loss of property is yet to be ascertained, the officers added.
