Pasighat, Feb 27: In a ceremony marked by nostalgia and heartfelt tributes, the fraternity of Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) here accorded a warm and emotional farewell to Dr Sunand K Sinha, Associate Professor, Department of English, on the occasion of his superannuation.
The farewell ceremony, attended by faculty members, staff, students, and family members, celebrated Dr Sinha’s nearly three-decade-long academic journey in Arunachal Pradesh. Anchored by Dr Zeni Kamsi, the programme reflected deep admiration and gratitude for his invaluable contributions to the institution and the state’s higher education landscape.
In his valedictory address, Dr Sinha fondly recalled arriving in Arunachal Pradesh in 1997 as a young PhD graduate from Banaras Hindu University. He spoke about serving in challenging postings in Deomali and Changlang before joining JNC in 2008. Reflecting on his journey, he remarked that while he came to the state “raw,” Arunachal Pradesh transformed him into a “finished product,” expressing heartfelt gratitude to the people and the institution for their unwavering support.
Dr Sinha is a recipient of the Governor’s Outstanding Teacher’s Award 2023 and the JNC Principal’s Lifetime Academic Legacy Award 2026. An Associate of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, he was also honoured by the Election Commission of India for his role as a National Electoral Expert and was empanelled as an International Trainer. Within the college, he held several key responsibilities, including Secretary of the Staff Council, Convener of the Research and Development Cell, and head of multiple academic and administrative committees.
JNC Principal Dr Gindu Borang lauded Dr Sinha’s sincerity, dedication, and positive attitude, describing his superannuation in good health as a significant milestone. Other faculty members also paid glowing tributes, recalling his tireless efforts during the college’s Golden Jubilee celebrations and NAAC accreditation process.
The programme concluded with the presentation of mementos and a collective expression of gratitude for Dr Sinha’s illustrious service. The JNC fraternity wished him a healthy, peaceful, and fulfilling new chapter in life.
