ITANAGAR, Feb 28: The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) celebrated National Science Day 2026 with great enthusiasm today at the Seminar Hall of the Department of Forestry.
Jointly organized by the Basic Science Departments (Chemistry, Forestry, Physics and Mathematics) in collaboration with the Institute Innovation Council (IIC), the celebration aligned with this year’s theme, ‘Women in Science: Catalyzing Viksit Bharat’, highlighting the pivotal role of women and young minds in advancing India’s scientific growth, innovation, and global leadership.
The programme was graced by Prof Narendranath S, Director NERIST, as chief guest, and Dr Gourishankar Das, Associate Professor from Dibrugarh University, as guest of honour. Students from various neighbouring schools, including PM Shri JNV Lakhimpur, actively participated in competitions such as poster presentation, science model competition, and quiz contests.
The inaugural session commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and scientific enlightenment. The dignitaries were felicitated by the organizing committee in appreciation of their academic contributions and continued support toward fostering scientific temperament.
In their addresses, both the chief guest and the guest of honour underscored the significance of empowering youth through quality scientific education and interdisciplinary research to achieve the vision of a developed India.
The celebration featured an expert talk along with various competitions. In the Science Model Competition, VKV Nirjuli secured the first prize, while PM Shri JNV Lakhimpur secured the second prize. In the poster presentation competition, Govt Hr Sec School, Doimukh, won both the first and second prizes. In the Science Quiz Competition, KV NERIST secured both first and second positions.
Earlier, Dr Meera Yadav, HoD Chemistry, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the importance of National Science Day in nurturing curiosity, innovation, and a strong research culture among students.
The event concluded with the prize distribution ceremony, recognizing the outstanding contributions of participating students.
The National Science Day Celebration 2026 at NERIST served as a vibrant platform to inspire young minds and reaffirm the vital role of science and innovation in nation building.
