KVK, East Siang conducts 19th SAC meeting

PASIGHAT, Mar 3: The 19th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), East Siang was successfully held here today.

Chaired by Prof L Wangchu, Dean College of Horticulture & Forestry (Pasighat), the meeting was attended by Prof Sanjay Swami, Dean College of Agriculture, Pasighat, District line department heads of Agriculture, Horticulture and Veterinary departments, District Training Officer (DTO), Assistant Director of Akashvani Pasighat, Branch Managers of Apex Bank and State Bank of India, along with HoDs of the CHF and all scientists & staff of KVK, East Siang.

The technical session began with the presentation of the annual progress report for the year 2025 by Dr Brijendra Singh Rajawat, Principal Scientist & Head, KVK East Siang. Detailed discussions were held on the results of various technological interventions undertaken through On-Farm Testings (OFTs) and Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) during the year.

He also presented the Annual Action Plan for the year 2026 during the session.

Members deliberated extensively on the proposed programmes and strategies to ensure effective and timely implementation of all activities planned for the year 2026. Emphasis was laid on need-based, location-specific interventions and strengthening coordination among line departments for maximizing outreaches and impact.

Addressing the gathering, Prof Wangchu, Prof Swami, and Dr G Kardrival, Director, ICAR-ATARI (Zone VI), Guwahati, emphasized the importance of convergence and collaboration among allied departments to strengthen extension services and ensure effective dissemination of improved technologies to farmers.

The Director also urged officials to work in close coordination with KVK, East Siang for successful implementation of various development programmes. He suggested to prioritize the problems and select appropriate technologies, entrepreneurship development in secondary agriculture and skill development in potential sectors. The need for cluster demonstrations to achieve visible impact, promote large-scale adoption of proven technologies and enhance farmers’ income through systematic and area-specific interventions was also asserted.

Key thrust areas discussed during the meeting included promotion of Moringa plantation, value addition of mushrooms and millets, more focus on horticulture crops, identification of suitable technologies for the district and strengthening inter-departmental collaboration for improving farmers’ livelihoods.

The meeting concluded with valuable suggestions from members & a collective resolve to further strengthen the outreach and functioning of KVK East Siang for the benefit of the farming community in the district.
