Efforts afoot to boost farmers’ knowledge and skills through field-based learning and interaction

BASAR, Mar 6: Aimed at strengthening farmers’ knowledge and skills through field-based learning and interaction, an ATMA-sponsored programme under the Farm School Model was successfully conducted at the field of awardee and prominent progressive farmer, Nyaken Basar near Nyigam village in Leparada district.

Aimed to provide season-long technical backstroking and training to targeted farmers through interactive sessions, ADO Basar Bippi Karbak highlighted the objectives of the programme, and encouraged the farmers to actively participate and adopt improved agricultural practices.

During the technical session, Nyaken Basar (resource person) delivered an informative talk on the production technology of cabbage and tomato crops. He elaborated on cultivation practices, cost involvement and the practical challenges faced by farmers in the field.

He also emphasized the need for adopting technical innovations and using quality seeds to ensure higher productivity and successful farming.

Speaking on the occasion, District Agriculture Officer (DAO) Sengo Dini stressed the importance of organic farming systems for the farmers of the district. He stated that organic farming is a sustainable and profitable approach that not only enhances farmers’ income but also ensures long-term soil health. He further encouraged farmers to practise crop rotation in order to maintain soil fertility and improve farm productivity.

Altogether, 30 farmers from different parts of Leparada district, along with ATMA functionaries, actively participated in the programme and interacted with the resource person.

The programme was conducted under the leadership of Sengo Dini, DAO-cum-PD ATMA, Leparada, with Bippi Karbak, ADO-cum-Nodal Officer, ATMA, Leparada, coordinating the event. (DIPRO)
