PASIGHAT, MAR 12: The Women Cell of Arunachal Pradesh University Students’ Union (APUSU) conducted an awareness programme on menstrual hygiene at the APU premises here today.
The event, aimed to educate students on health maintenance and social advocacy regarding menstruation, witnessed the presence of Dr Subham Singh, a health and hygiene expert from the Arunachal Life Saving Foundation, as a resource person.
During the session, Dr Singh addressed the physiological aspects of menstruation, detailing the symptoms of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)—such as appetite changes, fatigue, and physical discomfort—and the importance of monitoring for conditions like anemia and urinary tract infections (UTIs).
A key focus of the presentation was the elimination of social taboos.
The resource person further emphasized that menstruation is a natural process and encouraged students to speak openly about their needs, including requesting sanitary products without hesitation.
During a practical demonstration on the use and maintenance of menstrual cups, the expert explained that the devices are a safe, reusable option when properly sterilized in boiling water for approximately 15 minutes.
The initiative concluded with an interactive Q&A session, successfully providing students with practical health information and reinforcing the importance of proper hygiene practices within the university community.
Faculty members and students from various departments attended the program.
