‘Growing’ consent to PFR survey for SUMP in U/Siang, Siang districts

ITANAGAR, Mar 16: In a latest development supporting the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) survey for the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), 56 out of 77 households of Bomdo village of Upper Siang district formally extended their consent by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Conference Hall of the DC Bungalow, Yingkiong on Monday.

The MoU signing programme was held in the presence of SUMP Development Committee vice-chairperson Lumgeng Litin, committee members Omiyang Boli and Dubom Tekseng, Circle Officer Kenbang Jongkey, along with representatives of the Project Affected Families (PAFs).

On behalf of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang signed the MoU. Binbo Lonchung signed the agreement on behalf of the Project Affected Families of Bomdo village and formally handed over the consent authorisation to the Deputy Commissioner.

Addressing the gathering, DC Talo Jerang elaborated on various aspects of the PFR survey and clarified doubts and misconceptions related to the pre-feasibility study process. He also appreciated the residents of Bomdo village for their forward-looking approach and constructive support towards the proposed project.

The development reflects growing community participation and support for the ongoing PFR activities of the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project in Upper Siang district.

The Siang Upper Multipurpose Project, considered a project of national importance, is expected to strengthen energy security, improve infrastructure and generate long-term socio-economic opportunities for the region. The signing of MoUs for the PFR stage marks a critical milestone, enabling the government to initiate detailed assessments and planning processes.

BOLENG: In a continuous show of growing regional support for the SUMP, the Parong village unit of the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project District Committee (SUMPDC) today submitted an additional list of residents extending their consent for the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) activities.

Earlier, 67 households from Parong village had signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. With 7 more households formally submitting their support today, the total number of pro-PFR households in Parong village has now reached 74, marking a crucial step forward in the government's efforts to gather scientific data and conduct detailed assessments for the proposed initiative.

The formal submission of the pro-PFR list took place in a highly coordinated gathering, reflecting the transparent and inclusive approach maintained by the district administration.

Tarin Tali, Chairman SUMPDC Parong village and its member submitted the formal document to DC Siang Tayi Taggu, in presence of SP Siang James Lego; and retd CE & State Nodal Officer (SUMP) Atek Miyu, ensuring that the administrative and security apparatus remains fully engaged with the local communities and their developmental aspirations.

The gathering also included the executive engineers of PWD, Power and DHPD, and AE (PHED).

The submission of this additional list from Parong village signifies a strengthening consensus among the local populace regarding the long-term socio-economic benefits of the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. It builds seamlessly upon the recent momentum generated by neighboring villages, including Pugging, Ramsing, and Janbo, which recently signed MoUs to support the PFR stage. (DIPROs)
