TAWANG, Mar 16: A one-day workshop on capacity building of beneficiaries under the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) for establishment of milch dairy units and fodder development was conducted at Zomkhang Hall here on Monday.

ZPM of Kyidphel block Tenzin Monpa attended the programme as the chief guest. Among others present were Secretary of AHV & Dairy Development, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, YVV Rajashekhar; Deputy Commissioner of Tawang; Director of AHV & Dairy Development Dr Danjan Longri; Col Lokesh Sharma of the Indian Army; and Joint Director Dr T Taggu.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr Longri highlighted the importance of strengthening dairy farming in the region and empowering farmers through scientific practices and institutional support.

Assistant Nodal Officer of VVP Dr Seba Yomdo presented an overview of the scheme and informed that selected beneficiaries would be provided with three high-yielding milch cows, fodder seeds and bio-fertilizers to promote sustainable fodder production and increase milk productivity.

Col Sharma said the Indian Army could serve as a reliable market for locally produced milk, noting that the Army requires nearly 15,000 litres of milk daily. He encouraged the formation of dairy cooperative societies and milk unions to enable local farmers to meet this demand.

Secretary Rajashekhar said the workshop was aimed at creating awareness and providing technical guidance to beneficiaries before implementation of the scheme. He urged farmers to adopt scientific dairy practices such as artificial insemination, improved housing and better herd management.

Chief guest Monpa expressed gratitude to the government for selecting beneficiaries from the district and encouraged farmers to make the most of the opportunity, assuring support from Panchayati Raj Institutions.

During the technical session, Dr Lalit Barot, Technical Officer from National Dairy Services, delivered a presentation on profitable dairy enterprise management, including feeding practices and calf care. The programme concluded with distribution of fodder seeds, bio-fertilizers and participation certificates to beneficiaries. (DIPRO)
