PASIGHAT, Mar 17: A 15-day workshop on drama, organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society-East Siang Unit (APLS-ESU) in collaboration with the Department of Hindi, Arunachal Pradesh University (APU), Pasighat got underway here today.
The inaugural event, which witnessed the presence of Goge Bam, a theatre practitioner and director, as a resource person and mentor, was graced by APU Registrar Narmi Darang, Dr Monshi Tayeng (Controller of Examinations), Ponung Ering Angu (APLS-ESU president), writers, faculty members and students of the university.
Goge Bam, an alumnus of National School of Drama, Delhi and currently pursuing a PhD at Shantiniketan, shared her experiences and perspective on theatre. She also highlighted various challenges and rewards of pursuing a career in theatre, which is still a developing artistic arena in the State.
In his address, the Registrar, stressing on the role of the university in facilitating such programmes, said that it broadens the horizons of the youth of the State. He specifically touched upon several outreach programmes conducted by the APU, and emphasized further possibilities of such collaborations with organizations such as APLS-ESU, which works for betterment of the society.
In her speech, Angu highlighted the importance of organizing such workshops for inculcating literary and cultural sensitivity in the younger generation. She stressed on the role of drama in fomenting social consciousness.
Dr Ing Perme, APLS-ESU general secretary and HoD Hindi (APU), outlined the aims and objectives of the workshop, and shared the vision of the organizers in providing a platform and opportunity to young drama enthusiasts residing in the district.
Dr Moge Basar, co-organizing secretary, highlighted the role of APLS in fostering cultural change and mentioned the contributions of eminent personalities such as Y D Thongchi, Padmashree Awardee and APLS president, who makes envisioning and implementation of such events possible.
He also stressed upon the role of Angu, APLS-ESU members, the APU administration, various students and faculty members of the university, for successful conduct of the inaugural session. (DIPRO)
