ACCYWA demands revocation of weekly market restrictions

ITANAGAR, Mar 17: The All Capital Complex Youth Welfare Association (ACCYWA) on Tuesday demanded that the state government revoke its recent notification restricting weekly markets across the state.

Addressing reporters at the Arunachal Press Club here, ACCYWA general secretary Bikash Rava criticised the decision, stating that limiting weekly markets to a single day in a week is not a justified measure. He said the reasons cited by the government—illegal entry under the guise of markets and loss of revenue—were not valid grounds for imposing such restrictions.

Rava claimed that a large number of vendors, including widows and economically weaker sections, have been severely affected, as they depend on weekly markets for their daily livelihood.

The association urged the district administration and the state government to adopt policies that support tribal vendors and strengthen the local economy instead of imposing restrictions that impact their survival.

Citing Article 15(4) of the Constitution, ACCYWA stressed the need for measures to support socially and economically weaker communities.

The Association has submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister and the Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation, urging them to revoke the order. It also warned of launching a democratic movement if the government fails to revoke the ban order.
