JNC’s Hindi Dept holds seminar on ‘Arunachali Lok Sahitya’

PASIGHAT, Mar 19: A one-day seminar on ‘Arunachali Lok Sahitya’, organized by the Department of Hindi, Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC), was held at the college premises here today.

Speaking as chief guest at the event, JNC Principal Dr Gindu Borang stressed the importance of preserving folk culture, which, he said, can contribute to shaping the modern education system.

Vice Principal Dr Lekhi Sitang, in his speech, discussed the close relationship between history and folk culture, and emphasized that folk traditions shape social history.

In his address as a resource person, Prof Oken Lego, Dean of Languages (Rajiv Gandhi University), elaborated on the folk literature of Arunachal Pradesh and explained its historical significance, stating that Lok Sahitya forms the basic structure of social formation.

Earlier, the programme began with a group song presented by the Master’s students of the Hindi Department (JNC), followed by a welcome address delivered by the HoD Hindi (JNC), who highlighted the importance of folk culture for students.

Dr Abani Doley, HoD English, and Dr Tahong Taggu, Assistant Professor, Dept of Education (JNC), were also present.

The introductory session concluded with a brief speech by Mumying Moyong, faculty member of the Hindi Dept. The programme was coordinated by Dr Banasiri Pertin, with Dr Zebina Taki as co-coordinator.

The first technical session was chaired by Prof Lego, who provided valuable comments on each paper presented and stated that literature is a reflection of human society, highlighting various dimensions of folk culture in the construction of society.
