ITANAGAR, Mar 20: In a significant initiative aimed at promoting development and youth empowerment in remote border areas, the Indian Army has established a Community Fitness Centre & Gym at Gelemo village in Upper Subansiri district under Operation Sadbhavana (2025–26), as part of the Government of India’s Vibrant Village Programme.
The project has been implemented under the aegis of the Subansiri Yodha Brigade, a formation of the Spear Corps, as part of the Army’s ongoing outreach initiatives to strengthen civil-military cooperation while fostering development in border regions.
The newly established facility will provide local residents, particularly youth, access to modern fitness equipment and a dedicated space for physical training, recreation and community interaction. It is expected to encourage a culture of fitness, discipline and healthy living among young people in Gelemo and adjoining villages.
By creating a constructive environment for recreation and self-improvement, the initiative aims to channel the energy of youth towards productive pursuits while nurturing qualities such as confidence, resilience and self-reliance.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from villagers, including elders, women and children, reflecting the strong bond between the Army and local communities. Residents expressed appreciation for the Army’s continued efforts in bringing development-oriented initiatives to remote areas.
Through Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army continues to play a key role in improving quality of life in far-flung regions by supporting projects in infrastructure, education, healthcare, sports and community welfare.
The establishment of the fitness centre at Gelemo stands as a testament to the Army’s commitment to nation-building and its vision of developing vibrant, resilient and self-reliant border villages in Arunachal Pradesh.
