YINGKIONG, Mar 20: Continuing the momentum for endorsement to the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) activities of the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), an additional 39 residents of Komkar village have tendered their support, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier signed with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh at Itanagar.
Following this ‘development’, support for the PFR survey from Komkar village has reached 336 residents.
The list of supporting residents, presently staying in different parts of Upper Siang district and other districts owing to their occupations and business engagements, was formally submitted by Oyang Boko, on behalf of the villagers to the Deputy Commissioner Upper Siang Talo Jerang, during a programme held at the DC’s office conference hall here today.
Meanwhile, the DC appreciated the constructive support extended by the people of Komkar village and reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency, awareness, and community participation throughout the PFR process.
The DC further clarified that, unlike earlier methods of conducting PFR surveys, modern technology has significantly advanced the process. Quoting expert opinions, he stated that the PFR survey activities do not cause any adverse impact on the environment or forests. He explained that core samples would be collected from deep underground through core drilling techniques, which do not involve any destruction or damage to the surrounding area. (DIPRO)
