Three-day camp wrapped up successfully at TBDH with 100 surgeries

BASAR, Mar 22: A three-day surgical camp concluded at Todak Basar District Hospital (TBDH) here on a successful note, benefiting a large number of patients from Leparada as well as adjoining districts.

The camp witnessed an overwhelming response, with patients availing specialized healthcare services and expressing heartfelt gratitude for organizing such an initiative in the locality, which significantly reduced both their travel time and medical expenses.

The team of specialized doctors & supporting staff from Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), August Women’s Clinic, Zonal General Hospital-Aalo and District Hospital Basar performed a wide range of advanced laparoscopic and general surgical procedures during the three-day programme.

According to the performance report from Medical Superintendent TBDH Dr Nyage Lombi, a total of 100 surgeries were successfully carried out, including laparoscopic myomectomy (six), total laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral salphingo-oophorectomy (eight), total laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral salphingo-oophorectomy with appendicectomy (one), laparoscopic tubal ligation (19), laparoscopic ovarian dermoid cystectomy (three), laparoscopic ovarian endometriotic cystectomy (one), laparoscopic Cu-T removal with bilateral salpingectomy (one), diagnostic hysterolaparoscopy (nine), hemithyroidectomy for thyroid nodule (one), circumcision for phimosis (one), cataract surgeries (32), pterygium surgeries (five), emergency LSCS (one), laparoscopic cholecystectomy (eight), laparoscopic appendicectomy (one), laparoscopic pyelolithotomy (one), and right herniorrhaphy with orchidectomy (one).

The day-wise performance included 32 surgeries on the first day, 57 on the second day and 11 on the final day, reflecting the efficiency and dedication of the medical teams involved. The camp not only ensured access to advanced surgical care at the district level but also contributed to reducing the burden on tertiary healthcare facilities and operation theatres.

The surgical camp, conceptualized and organized under the initiative of local MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi, underscored the importance of enhancing access to specialized healthcare and bringing advanced medical services closer to the grassroots.

With plans to organize such camps periodically in the future, the initiative is expected to substantially benefit patients from rural and far-flung underserved areas and further strengthen the overall healthcare delivery system in the district and adjoining regions. (DIPRO)
