57th Malini Mela opens with cultural fervour at Likabali

ITANAGAR, Mar 23: The 57th edition of the Malini Mela commenced with great enthusiasm and cultural vibrancy at Likabali in Lower Siang district on Monday.

The five-day festival was formally inaugurated by Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, who lit the ceremonial lamp and addressed the gathering.

Emphasising the importance of cultural preservation, he highlighted the need to protect and promote the rich heritage of the state as a valuable asset for future generations.

Prior to the inaugural function, dignitaries visited the sacred Malini Temple and offered prayers, seeking blessings for the successful conduct of the festival and for peace and harmony in the world.

The programme began with the screening of an introductory video, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by students of Abotani Vidya Niketan and the rendition of Vande Mataram.

The event was also attended by Nari-Koyu MLA Tojir Kadu and ZPM Pakmo Koyu. The dignitaries were felicitated during the programme, followed by vibrant cultural performances by various troupes showcasing the rich traditions and diversity of the region. Er Kirpak Dini, organising secretary of Malini Mela 2026, presented an overview of the event.

Earlier in the day, Lower Siang Deputy Commissioner Gobi Nyicyor, who also serves as president of the Malinithan Vikas Parishad, inaugurated the mela stalls. In his address, he highlighted the cultural and historical significance of the event and emphasised its role in promoting unity, fraternity, tourism, and preservation of heritage.

The inaugural evening witnessed high-energy performances by Trend, winners of the All India K-Pop Contest, along with musical concerts by Marjum Ngomdir and his band, and Zeal the Band, adding to the festive spirit.

The festival promises a vibrant blend of spirituality, culture, and entertainment, drawing visitors from across the region.
