Teachings of Lord Buddha guide coexistence, non-violence and compassion: Dy CM Mein

Itanagar, Mar 28: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has said that the teachings of Lord Buddha continue to serve as a guiding light for coexistence, non-violence, and compassion in today’s world.

He said this while inaugurating the Vidarshan Buddha Vihara at Kokila in Papum Pare district, in the presence of MLAs Nabam Vivek and Chau Zingnu Namchoom, on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, Mein highlighted the relevance of Buddha’s teachings in a time marked by conflicts and uncertainties, emphasizing the importance of peaceful coexistence and harmony among communities.

Highlighting the rich cultural fabric of Arunachal Pradesh, he noted that the state is home to diverse Buddhist traditions—Mahayana and Vajrayana in the western and northern regions, and Theravada in the eastern belt. Despite these differences, he emphasized that the core teachings remain rooted in peace, compassion, and harmony.

The Deputy Chief Minister also underlined that a Vihara serves not only as a place of worship but also as a centre for learning, discipline, and preservation of cultural heritage, playing a vital role in guiding the younger generation and sustaining traditional values.

Commending the community for its dedication to preserving its spiritual and cultural legacy, Mein assured continued government support for similar initiatives, including infrastructure development, cultural promotion, and community welfare.

He expressed hope that the Vidarshan Buddha Vihara would continue to inspire peace, unity, and spiritual growth for generations to come.
