ITANAGAR, Mar 30: In a profound sense of pride, the community came together for the Somnath Swabhiman Parv held at the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital (RKMH) premises here on Sunday.
More than just a ceremony, the event was a heartfelt tribute to the enduring spirit of the Somnath Temple and the deep cultural roots that bind the nation together.
The afternoon session began with the grounding hum of Vedic chants by Swami Jyotirajananda, Swami Devdevashananda, and Swami Divyavidyananda, setting a meditative tone that carried through the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Dr Narendranath S, Director NERIST and Mamata Riba, Secretary Art and Culture (GoAP).
Between the soul-stirring ‘Dwadash-Jyotirlinga’ chants by the Vivekananda Circle and a calming meditation session led by Poonam Aggarwal, the air reverberated with devotion.
Artistry took centre stage as Techi Ajum performed a graceful classical dance, followed by a powerful, high-energy Shiva Tandav by renowned Kathak exponent Amit Kumar Mukherjee.
Adding a layer of historical depth, Dr Narendranath shared the moving story of Somnath’s resilience, complemented by a short documentary and slokas from artist Mili Singh Lowang.
On her part, Mamata Riba appreciated the Ramakrishna Mission and the Leeyo Multipurpose Society for bringing the community together.
The day concluded with a soothing Bhajan rendition by Swami Pradiptananda, leaving everyone with a renewed sense of Atoot Astha—unwavering faith—and a shared pride in their heritage.
