“April Cool” event promotes sustainability and youth engagement in Lower Dibang Valley

Itanagar, Apr 3: The 11th edition of “April Cool” event, organised by NE Narrative, was successfully held at Asali Farm in Asali village of Lower Dibang Valley district, bringing together farmers, youth, and self-help group (SHG) members to promote environmental sustainability and community participation.

The programme featured a plantation drive, during which participants planted a variety of saplings including Kaji Lemon (Assam’s GI-tagged lemon), Thai Guava, Neem, Amla, and Black Plum. The initiative aimed to enhance biodiversity, support local livelihoods, and encourage eco-friendly practices.

The event was hosted by Lisha Umpo, the first Idu Mishmi woman documentary filmmaker from Asali village, who also led an interactive session with participants on climate change awareness and the importance of grassroots action.

Director of NE Narrative, Rudrangshu Roy, highlighted an upcoming initiative titled “Project Backyard Canopy: Started with Hope, Growing with Passion,” envisioned as a community-driven platform in Lower Dibang Valley. The project aims to engage youth, students, and families in hands-on activities such as planting and nurturing crops, fostering a stronger connection with nature.

The event highlighted the importance of collective efforts and community-led initiatives in addressing climate challenges and building a culture of sustainability and shared responsibility.
