Major drug bust in Namsai: Two including key peddler held, 57 grams heroin seized

Itanagar, Apr 3: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Namsai Police has seized 57 grams of suspected heroin and arrested key accused persons in two separate operations conducted within a span of 12 days.

The operations were carried out under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Sangey Thinley.

In the first case on March 20, acting on credible inputs, a police team raided an abandoned rented premises near a petroleum pump, about 1 km from 2nd Mile, Namsai, and apprehended Sujita Kungkung. During the search, around 15 grams of suspected heroin concealed in a soap case was recovered from her possession.

In a follow-up operation on April 2, police intercepted a Suzuki Ignis vehicle along the Solungtoo Highway and apprehended Chow Pingta Choutang, identified as a key peddler. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of approximately 41 grams of suspected heroin, also concealed in soap cases.

All seizures were carried out following due legal procedures in the presence of independent witnesses and documented through e-Sakshya app, and cases have been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.

The operations were conducted by the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) led by Dy SP Kengo Dirchi, SDPO Namsai, along with police personnel and support staff.

Police said further investigation is underway to trace backward and forward linkages of the drug network.

Reiterating its commitment to a drug-free society, Namsai Police has urged the public to share information on illegal drug activities.
