Police seizes heroin, arrests two in Nirjuli operation

Itanagar, Apr 3: In a continued crackdown on drug trafficking, the Naharlagun Police under the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) seized 31 vials of heroin and apprehended two individuals during a targeted operation in Nirjuli on Thursday.

Police said on Friday that acting on reliable inputs about transportation of contraband from Banderdewa, a police team led by Inspector Tadu Hassang, Officer-in-Charge of Nirjuli Police Station, launched an operation under the supervision of Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Dr Nyelam Nega.

The team intercepted a TVS Ntorq scooty at Viaduct Bridge, Dikrong, Nirjuli, and apprehended two persons identified as Khyoda Tama (24), a resident of Jollang near Central Jail, Itanagar, and Bamang Raju (29), resident of Dokum Colony, Itanagar.

During the search, police recovered 31 vials of heroin weighing 39.96 grams (including vial weight) from their possession. The contraband, along with the vehicle, was seized following due legal procedures in the presence of independent witnesses.

A case has been registered at Nirjuli Police Station under Sections 21(b)/27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.

Police officials reiterated their commitment to intensifying action against drug-related activities and ensuring a drug-free society.
