LIKABALI, Apr 5: The grand celebration of the Central Mega Mopin 2026 at Gensi in Lower Siang district today heralded the dedication of a series of developmental projects in the area, including inauguration of the newly constructed Golden Jubilee Model School building at GHSS, Gensi executed by the UD & Housing Department and six numbers of RCC bridges along the Garu–Sibe route constructed by the Rural Works Department (RWD).
The event was graced by P D Sona, Minister for Education, RWD, Parliamentary Affairs, Tourism & Libraries, as chief guest; Ruma Mugli, Jt Director Accounts & Treasury, as guest of honour; and Col (Dr) Taikio Teyi arh, Commanding Officer, 188 MH, 56 Infantry Division, Indian Army and Gobi Nyicyor, Deputy Commissioner as special guests.
The programme was also attended by Kardo Nyigyor, State Assembly Deputy Speaker, besides active participation of HoDs, other dignitaries, village people and popir parties of peripheral villages.
Extending greetings on the auspicious occasion of Mopin, Sona emphasized that festivals should serve as a medium to reconnect with cultural roots rather than merely being occasions of celebration. He appealed to festival committees to promote unity and inclusiveness by inviting Community Based Organizations (CBOs) as chief guests, instead of political figures, thereby fostering stronger harmony among communities.
He also expressed satisfaction over improved connectivity, appreciating the PMGSY road leading to Gensi.
The inaugurated the newly constructed building of GHSS, Gensi, stating that it reflects the government’s commitment under Mission Shikshit Abhiyan to strengthen educational infrastructure and ensure adequate human resources. Highlighting recent reforms, he noted that the “Education Act” would ensure equitable distribution of manpower and significantly improve the education scenario in the State. He stressed that professional commitment must complement infrastructure development.
During the programme, Sona interacted with teachers and members of the School Management Committee (SMC), emphasizing the importance of quality education in rural areas.
He assured that, in addition to the PMGSY scheme the government will further expand rural road connectivity under the Chief Minister Gramin Sadak Yojana, especially for areas not covered due to population criteria.
Speaking on the occasion, Nyigyor stressed the need to prioritize more developmental projects under PMGSY, including the sanctioning of a school auditorium and a girls’ hostel. He also encouraged promoting self-reliance during festival celebrations.
