ITANAGAR, Apr 6: Doctors of Heema Hospital (HH) here conducted a challenging surgery involving a suspected thyroid tumour on April 3 last.
The surgery was led by head and neck oncosurgeon Dr Toni Borang, ENT surgeon Dr Kesang W Thongdok and anaesthetist Dr Genya Zirdo, who were assisted by surgeon Dr Doka Jamoh.
‘The patient was previously referred outside the state due to the complexity of the case. However, the estimated cost of treatment- ranging between Rs 2.5 to Rs 3 lakh- posed a significant financial burden. At Heema Hospital, the procedure was successfully performed at less than half the projected cost, reinforcing the hospitals’ commitment to making quality healthcare accessible and affordable,’ Dr Byabang Rana, managing director (MD) of HH, said.
‘The intricate surgery lasted approximately 7.5 hours. The excised thyroid mass weighed nearly 500 grams- substantially larger than a normal thyroid gland, which typically weighs between 15 to 20 grams. The patient is reportedly recovering well post surgery and the condition is stable,’ the MD further added.
