Two-day Homestay hospitality orientation benefits 40 trainees

ITANAGAR, Apr 7: A two-day Homestay hospitality orientation programme, organized by the Department of Tourism (GoAP), concluded at the State Food Craft Institute (SFCI) here today.

The Dept of Tourism-led initiative aimed to strengthen the homestay sector and promote responsible tourism in the State.

Inaugurating the programme, Deputy Director Tourism Bengia Manna Sonam highlighted the importance of homestays in promoting community-based tourism and sustainable livelihoods. She emphasized the need to improve hospitality standards while preserving local culture.

Around 40 participants from various districts attended the training, which focused on homestay management, guest handling, housekeeping, communication, and operational procedures including ILP/PAP.

On the first day, sessions focused on the fundamentals of homestay management. SFCI Principal S S Kar conducted an orientation on tourism concepts and guest handling, followed by insights on guest experience and operations.

Yomjum Yongam highlighted the importance of homestays and effective hosting practices. Jimiya Umpo covered housekeeping, emphasizing cleanliness and hygiene, while Bulo Yami spoke on hospitality and communication.

The second day focused on practical learning, covering the complete guest cycle from booking to departure. Participants engaged in activity-based exercises and hands-on demonstrations of bed-making and food service.

The programme concluded with a valedictory session and distribution of certificates.
